Leonard J. Ackerman is the founder of American Debt Relief. Mr. Ackerman represents debtors, creditors, and trustees in bankruptcy cases arising under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the bankruptcy code. Mr. Ackerman's background in representing debtors, creditors, and both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Trustees provide a unique perspective and rare advantage to his clients.
For over 15 years, Mr. Ackerman has represented both corporate and individual debtors. For the past 7 years Attorney Len Ackerman has been on the Board of Directors of both the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum and the Board of Directors for the California State Bankruptcy Forum
For three years, Mr. Ackerman represented the Chapter 13 Trustee. While at the Chapter 13 Trustee's office, he reviewed and administered approximately 4000 bankruptcies filed in San Diego County.
For approximately two years, Mr. Ackerman worked at Kirby and McGuinn, A P.C, where he represented creditors both large and small, as well as Chapter 7 trustees in preference actions, fraudulent transfer actions, exemption disputes, and collection issues.
Mr. Ackerman earned a juridoctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1993. As a law student, Mr. Ackerman won the Academic Achievement Award and made Deans List. Prior to his legal education, Mr. Ackerman obtained his B.A. in Accounting and Computer Information Systems cum laude from Queens College, City University of New York.
Mr. Ackerman is admitted to practice law in the state of California and is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California. Mr. Ackerman has spoken in front of the Internal Revenue Service, the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees, the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum, National Business Institute, and the California Credit Union Collectors Council. He has written several articles for the San Diego Daily Transcript and the San Diego Union Tribune. Mr. Ackerman has also spoken several times on both the local and national scale on behalf of the Creditor Abuse Resistance Program (C.A.R.E.)
